How do you replace a CR2450 battery

The BMW key fob offers convenience and security with the click of a button. However, over time the battery in your BMW key fob will weaken, and it will need to be replaced for it to work properly. Knowing how to replace a BMW key fob battery will allow you to get back on the road swiftly and quickly.

While there are several different types of BMW key fobs most utilize the same type of battery, a CR2450 or CR2032 coin cell. The small round battery is sold in most shops for less than $1 per unit. CR2450 batteries are able to be installed and removed from the key fob.

To replace the CR2450 batteries in your BMW find the tab that releases the metal valet within the fob. Once the metal valet key is removed, look for an access port that is small on the front of the fob that conceals the key battery cover. Using a flat screwdriver, take off the cover to reveal the battery. After the old battery has been removed, replace it with a new one with the positive side facing up and then put it back together.
