Take A Look At The Steve Jobs Of The Audi G28 Industry

How to Replace an audi key programmer G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain. However the code will not appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test since there are different pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, audi key fob replacement Replacement Key Service Near Me, visit this weblink, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this component, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a massive drop in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth one was dry. When I start the engine without sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stay closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I'm assuming the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is zero.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that i might have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or from a parts store. It is easy to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that needs to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make a decision about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to the engine shutting down.

Some of the symptoms of a failed G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or a misfire when you are in gear. If you experience any of these issues it is most likely that your sensor is going bad and should be replaced. They're inexpensive and easy to locate particularly when they're a Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for a slew of problems in your vehicle. It is a crucial part of your audi a3 keys's transmission, because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

The ECU then uses and processes this signal to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should see a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms in these areas. This is the same across the audi spare key cost 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.
